Whether you spend your workday in direct sunlight or in an area with limited air flow, heat stressors can turn a warm workday into a scorchingly hot one extremely quick. Unique weather conditions specific to a small area (such as an outdoor work environment) can make the area feel hotter or cooler than the larger, surrounding area. Known as microclimates, these conditions can be caused by manufactured elements (asphalt, cement, metal machinery, etc.) or natural elements (trees, soil, bodies of water, etc.) present in the area.
You can use instruments like a wet bulb globe temperature monitor to easily tell the true temperature of your jobsite and track weather factors like relative humidity so you can prepare for the heat and determine the best ways to stay cool. If your jobsite’s relative humidity is low, evaporative cooling items can be an excellent choice for effective body cooling!
Like phase change and conductive cooling vests, evaporative PPE is designed to prevent your core body temperature from rising to dangerous levels.
