Do your workers operate at a height and need a harness for their fall protection system? Get peace of mind with Magid’s selection of high-quality body harnesses. We carry top-of-the-line offerings from manufacturers like Miller, 3M DBI-SALA, MSA, and Honeywell that are durable and offer superb comfort and mobility.

Safety Harnesses for Working at a Height

If your job involves working in elevated work areas, a full-body safety harness can be a life-saving piece of PPE! Attached to a connector (like a lanyard or retractable lifeline) and an anchor point in your work area, harnesses keep you upright in the event of a fall and distribute the weight from the force of the fall across your body to minimize injuries.

The Benefits of a Full-Body Harness

Both fall protection harnesses and full-body harnesses cradle your shoulders, thighs, and mid-section for comfort, mobility, and safety while working at a height. Using proprietary materials and specially placed padding and webbing, harnesses are lighter and stronger than in years past while still holding up after each use.

While also designed to minimize the potentially life-altering effects of a fall, safety harnesses are sized to prevent a worker from colliding with an object or the level below their work area in addition to helping facilitate faster rescue efforts.

Safety Harness Classes

Many safety harnesses are designed for specific functions and situations to minimize the dangers of working at a height. CSA Z259.10-18 groups safety harnesses into specific classes, including:

  • Class A Harnesses are strictly for fall arrest and are equipped with a back dorsal D-ring
  • Class P Harnesses are designed for positioning, with D-rings at the hips for additional connection points. These are often used for applications on vertical structures where workers operate in dangerous or atypical positions while still requiring full range of motion.
  • Class L Harnesses are designed for climbing, with a frontal attachment point connected to a fixed ladder system
  • Class E Harnesses are designed for rescue operations and working in confined spaces. These types of harnesses often have a D-ring on each shoulder strap to maintain upright positioning.
  • Class D Harnesses offer support when workers need to be raised, lowered, or suspended via a D-ring at the waist or both the waist and sternum

Common Features of a Fall Protection Harness

Safety harnesses can be equipped with a combination of the following features:

  • Suspension-relief straps to reduce pressure placed on the body
  • Quick-connect buckles at adjustment points
  • Aluminum hardware to reduce weight
  • Heat-, paint-, and moisture-resistant webbing
  • Partially flexible materials for a more natural range of movement
  • Spring-loaded D-rings designed to remain upright

Find these features among standard safety harness models as well as harnesses for welding operations, construction jobs, and worksites where workers need to move to different areas via ladders.
