Vertical Lifeline

Vertical Lifelines for Fall Protection

What’s your workplace’s fall prevention strategy? If employees use ladders or climb up objects, a vertical lifeline keeps them secure and tethered without compromising their up-and-down movement. Further considering safety, these devices eliminate the need for workers to detach the lifeline and create a higher tie-off point for select tasks.

What Do Vertical Lifelines Do?

A vertical lifeline functions as a ladder fall arrest system. This solution starts with a durable fall protection rope attached to a self-locking hook and a positioning device that connects to a secure point.

This combination creates a reliable fall protection and restraint system for workers who climb vertically on the job, including in roofing, construction, tower repairs, and similar environments. While the lifeline rope gives the worker some freedom, it also restricts them from climbing to a potentially dangerous fall hazard.

In considering your workplace’s safety program, vertical lifelines:

  • Provide a reliable personal fall protection solution for tasks involving climbing
  • Help reduce ladder-related fall accidents
  • Ensure workers have a safe and convenient degree of mobility
  • Use a single secure anchor point for climbing
  • Work with a harness and lanyard to keep a worker secure on the job

Precautions for Vertical Lifelines

While they’re a flexible fall prevention solution, workers need to take precautions when using vertical lifelines:

  • Vertical lifelines are not built for use with portable ladders
  • Vertical lifelines aren’t designed for horizontal surfaces
  • Avoid having several workers use vertical lifelines in a single area
  • Workers need to have on a full-body harness with D-rings while using a vertical lifeline; a body or waist belt does not create a sufficient connection
  • Just as with all fall prevention solutions, vertical lifelines need to be inspected every time before use
