High Visibility Wear and Work Clothes

Stay seen in low-visibility conditions with Magid’s selection of high-visibility (hi-vis) work clothes and accessories! Hi-vis clothing helps others see you and your workers in darker environments or areas where equipment, vehicles, or barriers can create obstacles and block sight lines.

What Makes Clothing and PPE Hi-Vis?

As you look for the right gear to ensure the safety of your entire team, hi-vis safety vests and other safety wear offer a combination of the following features:

  • Hi-Vis Colors: Just because a shirt is bright yellow, neon green, or hot pink, doesn’t mean it qualifies as hi-vis. ANSI classifies three colors as high-visibility colors: yellow-green, orange-red, and red. These brighter colors reflect invisible UV rays while simultaneously enhancing the effects of sunlight. But that doesn’t mean they can’t be seen in cloudy or dark conditions: These colors stand out against nearly all types of backgrounds and in all kinds of work settings.
  • Reflective Stripes: Hi-vis clothing adds reflective stripes (often in an X- or H-shaped pattern over the upper body for vests and shirts) to further boost your visibility by causing light to bounce back in the direction where it came from

Hi-Vis PPE Ratings

Perhaps you’re looking for hi-vis vests with a specific rating. Or, in complying with industry regulations and building out a workplace safety program, you’re providing gear to your team with a specific type or class. As you shop around for hi-vis gear, look for two key designations relating to the type and class of the gear:

  • Type: Many hi-vis vests or shirts are given a Roadway (R), Off-Road (O), or Public Safety (P) performance designation. Gear with an “R” designation performs well in both day and nighttime conditions, making them ideal for workers who operate in proximity to traffic. O-designated gear suits tasks requiring moderate visibility away from traffic or roadways. P-designated gear is ideal for law enforcement and other public safety officials.
  • Class: Class further specifies visibility level in relation to application. Class 1 hi-vis clothing is designed for workers away from roads or around vehicles traveling no more than 25 miles per hour. Class 2 has additional high-visibility materials, giving you visibility from a greater distance for applications such as road construction or surveying. Class 3 amplifies visibility further and takes busier, more chaotic environments into account that might have limited lighting or vehicles that move at a high-speed or in close range to the worker.

Count on Magid to supply your workforce with quality safety clothing that improves visibility in low-light conditions. Explore hi-vis clothing by type and class to find the best gear for your environment and application from our own brand plus Tingley, Radians, PIP, ML Kishigo, OccuNomix, and other prominent manufacturers.
