Waterproof & Chemical Resistant Gloves
Wearing the appropriate chemical resistant gloves is crucial for keeping your hands protected from injuries or irritations caused by spills, splashes, and other chemical exposures. Magid provides chemical resistant and waterproof work gloves that can be used for handling hazardous substances as well as cleanups involving household chemicals or harsh, hazardous liquids.

Chemical Resistant and Waterproof Work Gloves

Workplace chemicals can cause irritations, burns, and other health concerns when splashed or spilled. Additionally, working in damp and wet environments can affect how well you can grip objects. Magid can help you stay protected and adapt to these conditions with chemical resistant and waterproof gloves from our own brand as well as other manufacturers.

What are Chemical Resistant Work Gloves?

Work environments like laboratories and testing centers place employees in contact with dangerous chemicals. No matter where you work, if you’re handling toxic or corrosive liquids, hand protection is required to avoid exposure to substances that could cause rashes, burn through the skin, or even enter the bloodstream.

To protect workers against burns and other exposure injuries, chemical resistant gloves are made with materials like nitrile, polyvinyl chloride, butyl, neoprene, or latex. These materials create a shield against acetone, formaldehyde, acids, sodium hydroxide, and other chemical and biological substances. OSHA requires workers in jobs involving chemical handling and exposure to wear appropriate hand protection based on thickness, material, and length. To determine the optimal glove for your application, conduct a hazard assessment and review Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) for the properties of all substances used.

Chemical exposure can cause chemical resistant glove materials to break down or crack over time, which affects how much protection they provide. In turn, any gloves you own or provide to your workers must be inspected periodically for cracks, tears, punctures, or changes in size and thickness. If any deficiencies are detected, the gloves must be removed from service to prevent any exposure risks.

Features of Waterproof Work Gloves

Chemical resistant waterproof work gloves create a barrier against sources of moisture such as water, ice, snow, or damp surfaces. Manufacturers create waterproof work gloves with these features in mind:

  • Finish: A textile, synthetic, or leather work glove is coated or sprayed with a substance that enhances grip or repels or fully blocks out moisture
  • Non-Supported: Some chemically resistant work gloves offer better dexterity due to the lack of liner while retaining waterproof capabilities. These can be selected by thickness.
  • Supported: These gloves include one layer of a breathable, often moisture-wicking material, a waterproof coating, and sometimes a membrane to further block moisture

Supply your workers with waterproof and chemical resistant gloves from our own brand, Ansell, Showa, MAPA, MCR Safety, Guardian, and others. Browse nitrile, polyurethane, neoprene, latex, and other coatings added to Hyperon®, cotton, HPPE blend, neoprene, or acrylic fabrics. Gloves may offer additional cut resistance as well as improved grip based on the palm coating, too.
